Individual Health Insurance Options
For those who don't have other health insurance coverage, there are three options on the market:
- Individual Coverage Direct
- ACA Coverage - BeWell NM
- Medicaid - Determinable only by the Human Services department

Carrier Direct Coverage
- A good option for someone who doesn't have employer sponsored coverage or is a small business owner and makes too much to qualify for subsidies
- Less information captured in the enrollment process
- Direct billing to whoever administrates your benefits
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan direct? Pay through Blue Cross Blue Shield.
- Presbyterian Plan direct? Pay through Presbyterian.
BeWell Coverage
- Has opportunities for subsidized monthly premiums
- Up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- Some subsidies for those above 400%FPL starting 2026 through the New Mexico Premium Assistance (NMPA).
- Available to anyone who doesn't have access to other Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC)
- MEC is Medicaid or any employer sponsored plan whose premium is less than 9.02% of your annual income. (2025)
- Just because you have coverage through your employer does not mean you are automatically disqualified from subsidized plan options.
- Up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- Has options for additional health plans based on income level
- Includes a variety of SEPs (special enrollment periods)
- Has an identical network to the individual direct plans by carrier
- Offers additional carriers
- Molina Health Care is only available to consumers who do not qualify for Medicaid through BeWell NM.
- Direct billing to whoever administrates your benefits.
